About This Class

This course reviews the broad spectrum of strategies and institutions through which public policy are changed, from legislation and litigation, to science and education, to grass-roots organizing and public messaging—each with its own important role and path to success, as well as its real world practical and policy limitations. The larger lesson of the course is that there is no one single way to change public policy in a democracy, but rather there are a number of sites and agents of change; knowing what to use, how to use it, and when to use it are the keys to success. Offered with both ENV and RSJ designation.
