Layout Builder

The Land Use Clinic focuses on developing practical skills and competencies associated with land use practice. Students are introduced to Vermont municipal planning, environmental and state land use, (Act 250) statutory requirements and processes, including district commission and environmental division court proceedings. Students will intern at the Agency of Natural Resources (ANR) and work on a variety of land use issues which arise as a result of the Agency's regulatory and land management work.

The two-credit classroom component of the course is taught by Catherine Gjessing, General Counsel for the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife, part of ANR. Students will work directly under the supervision of Professor Gjessing and the other attorneys at ANR.

The two-credit classroom component of the course requires fourteen weeks of class at two hours per class. The four-credit practicum component of the course requires thirteen weeks of fourteen hours per week, or two days per week at the placement. The course is graded high pass; pass; low pass; and fail. Course enrollment is open; the Common Application is now required.
