Beware of Pirated Software

You may not be aware of this, BUT: Pirated software available for free download over the Internet is illegal, and the Technology department will not provide support for such software. For example, the Windows 7 operating system is available in four versions (See version info on Microsoft's website).
  • Starter
  • Home Premium
  • Professional
  • Ultimate
Pirated versions that don't require activation or a product key are not legal software, and may include software that will compromise your computer and the network (even if they say they don't). Software given to you "by a buddy" or software downloaded without proper payment is pirated software and illegal to have on your computer. In the case of Windows 7, these versions include (but are not limited to):
  • Windows 7 Black Edition
  • Windows 7 Eternity Edition
  • Windows 7 Royal
  • Windows 7 Extreme Edition
  • Windows 7 Gamer Edition
The Technology department sells Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit or 64-bit) to students for $35 plus sales tax, and it can be charged to the student's account.

Using pirated software is illegal. The Technology department has an obligation to report the use of pirated software to the Dean for Student Affairs. This illegal activity is a code of conduct violation and may have a negative impact on your professional goals.
