Many thanks to the Vermont Bar Association’s (VBA) Young Lawyers Division, including Justin Brown JD/MELP’09, Zach Dayno JD’18, Colette Schmidt JD’20, and Margaret Shugart JD/MELP’19, for hosting another great Mid-Winter Thaw in January. This beloved annual conference in Montreal features networking opportunities, continuing legal education (CLE) offerings, social events, and so much more.

President Rod Smolla welcomed a crowd of more than 200 Vermont lawyers, including dozens of alumni, at an opening reception sponsored by VLGS, and VLGS alumni were well represented as session presenters. Professional Responsibility and Family Law Professor Margaret Olnek JD’92 presented a CLE titled “The Call to Lead: Ethics and the Legal Profession” and Professors Marnie Avila Alvarez LLM’23 and Jill Martin Diaz participated in a panel with their Vermont Asylum Assistance Project colleagues.
It was wonderful to see so many Swans!
