Race, Law and Community Policing

On Thursday, October 8th, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm, the Black Law Students’ Association, Latin American Law Students’ Association, and SPEAK! are hosting Race, Law and Community Policing: Whatever Happened to Officer Friendly?
The panel discussion includes:
- Anna Saxman ’85, VT Deputy Defender General and VLS professor
- Karen Richards, Vermont Human Rights Commission
- Margaret Barry, VLS Associate Dean
- Peter Teachout, VLS Professor
- VLS Students: Nansi Singh, Alfonso Vilegas, Christopher Daudelin, and Markeithia Silver
In addition to the above-listed participants, the Community and Faculty panel will be joined by Colonel Matthew Birmingham of the Vermont State Police Department. Please join our diversely esteemed panels in speaking a discourse about the history and impact of community policing policies on ethnic and socioeconomic minority populations. Together we can explore the causes of action and policy recommendations available for remediating how our local, state, and federal governments work to maintain public safety.
