Veterans Week will begin Monday, Nov. 10, with an observance in front of Debevoise Hall followed by keynote addresses in Chase Community Center. VLS guest 1st Lt. Mike Heaney, U.S. Army Ret., will speak about his service in Vietnam and how it led him to become an attorney. And guest Lt. Col. David Leonard of the Vermont National Guard will discuss military family services.
On Wednesday, Nov. 12, VLS student veterans will share their experiences as women in the military. Speakers will include Maj. Melinda Sumner ’16, U.S. Marine Corps Ret.; Nancy Barbour ’15, U.S. Army Ret.; and Megan Backsen ’15, U.S. Coast Guard Ret.
Veterans Week will close Friday, Nov. 14, with speeches by VLS guests Lt. Col. Jacinto Palomino, U.S. Army JAG (judge advocate general), and Col. Jody M. Prescott, U.S. Army Ret., an adjunct professor of political science at the University of Vermont. Palomino will speak about his experiences in the Marine Corps and Army, and as a judge advocate general and prospective federal judge. Prescott will speak on "The Military & the Environment."
In addition, the greater VLS community is invited to Crossroads in South Royalton for free barbecue and beer while supplies last, from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14. Barbecue will be catered by Wicked Awesome BBQ.
