From Watergate to Russian interference, trial attorney and former special prosecutor Robert B. Fiske Jr. will give context to the Mueller investigation during a talk at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, in Chase Community Center at Vermont Law School. The event is free and open to the public, and will be streamed live at vermontlaw.edu/live.
Fiske’s talk, titled “The Role of the Independent Counsel and Special Prosecutor from Archibald Cox to Bob Mueller,” will draw on several decades of legal experience as Fiske shines a light on high-profile investigations. His discussion will take us from the 1970s, when Cox was special prosecutor during the Watergate scandal, to today with Mueller’s ongoing investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 United States election and possible connections to Trump’s presidential campaign.
Fiske served as the independent counsel in the Whitewater investigation during the Clinton administration, prior to the appointment of Kenneth Starr. While serving as the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Fiske managed high-profile prosecutions, including the convictions of narcotics kingpin Leroy “Nicky” Barnes and mobsters Anthony Scotto and Anthony Anastasio. As a senior counsel at Davis Polk, Fiske defended the National Football League (NFL) in an antitrust lawsuit brought by the United States Football League (USFL). His autobiography, “Prosecutor Defender Counselor” (Seapoint Books and Media, 2014), has received critical acclaim as a must-read for lawyers. Fiske is also a member of the VLS Board of Trustees.
“Bob Fiske is a role model and legal legend. We are so fortunate to have him join us at VLS to discuss the Mueller investigation,” said Professor Jennifer Taub, an expert in business regulation and white-collar crime. “With his depth of experience, Bob will provide greater context for this riveting criminal investigation into the Trump campaign that millions are following here in the United States and across the world.”
A reception will follow Fiske’s talk at VLS. For more information, email jtaub@vermontlaw.edu.
