Biography

Professor Margaret Olnek, an alumna of the University of Vermont and the Vermont Law and Graduate School, has been a member of the VLGS faculty since 2019.  She teaches Family Law and Professional Responsibility and serves as the adjunct faculty liaison, offering support to the adjunct faculty community at VLGS. In addition, Margaret chairs the Diversity Committee and serves as the faculty advisor to the Women’s Law Society.

Before joining VLGS, Margaret practiced law for twenty-five years in Boulder and Denver, Colorado. Her practice included criminal law, employment law, real estate, and probate. Since 2001, however, she has concentrated her practice on divorce and child custody, representing clients in cases ranging from amicable separations to intensely litigated high-conflict disputes. Margaret’s litigation background includes experience with every stage of the legal process, from case strategy and trial advocacy to appellate practice.

Margaret is also a seasoned Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) practitioner, having mediated and arbitrated family law cases. Her work with client-focused, resolution-oriented advocacy led her to pursue certification as a divorce coach in 2017. In this role, she continues to guide clients through the complexities of pre-divorce, divorce, and post-divorce challenges.

She is admitted to practice law in Colorado and Vermont and lives in Sharon, Vermont.
