Vermont Law and Graduate School (VLGS) is proud to announce the launch of a Master of Legal Studies (MLS) program.
This one-year, 30-credit program is designed for non-lawyers who are interested in learning about law and regulations or whose work intersects with law. The program will help students develop legal knowledge, skills and networks in specific areas of law tailored to their career interests.
The new Master of Legal Studies program will allow students to develop an individualized course plan by combining foundations of U.S. law and legal analysis and components of core J.D. courses with elective courses based on specific areas of focus. Completion of this degree will also qualify students from China to take the China National Judicial Examination.
The curriculum includes three required courses, a variety of electives and an advanced writing requirement. Students will benefit from intensive mentor guidance and strong comparative law expertise. The Master of Legal Studies will initially be offered as a residential program on the VLGS campus in South Royalton, Vermont, with online and hybrid options planned for the future.
“The Master of Legal Studies program will open doors for students who need a better understanding of the law to meet their career goals,” said Dean of Vermont Law School Beth McCormack. “Because there is no J.D. requirement, the program will also allow students from outside the U.S. with diverse national, cultural and professional backgrounds to join and enrich our law school community.”
VLGS is now accepting applications to the program, with the first class enrolling in the fall of 2023. More details about applying to the program can be found here.
