“After seeking input from the Vermont Law School community in the form of surveys and town halls, listening to the viewpoints of members of senior leadership and relevant committees, and consulting with the Vermont Department of Public Health and other Vermont colleges and universities, I have decided that, effective August 23, Vermont Law School will require all campus-based faculty, staff, and students to be vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus unless they qualify for a medical or religious exemption.
I made this decision in what I believe to be the best interests of our community, and with the goal of resuming normal operations at our school. With this decision, we join more than 500 other institutions of higher education across the country in requiring vaccinations against COVID-19.
At the same time, I know that several people in our community do not wish to receive the vaccine. I commit to showing respect for their decisions and doing my best to find a solution that works for them and the school.
I am hopeful that the beginning of the fall semester will mark a new time for Vermont Law School – one where we can return to South Royalton with good health, with optimism for our future, and with a reenergized commitment to our students, the environment, and to justice reform.”
