The Vermont Journal of Environmental Law (VJEL) seeks entries for its third annual White River Environmental Law Writing Competition, open to law students across the country for a chance to win $1,000 and publication in VJEL. The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9.
As the environmental law journal of Vermont Law School, home of the nation’s premier environmental law program, VJEL is positioned to reach audiences on a global scale and affords students a unique opportunity to participate in current debates surrounding far-reaching environmental law and policy issues.
"The mission of the Vermont Journal of Environmental Law is to provide an accessible forum to discuss contemporary environmental legal issues," said VJEL Editor-in-Chief Rebecca Blackmon ’17. "The White River Environmental Law Writing Competition is an extension of that mission, and we encourage law students from across the country to submit an article on an issue of environmental law to which they can bring their unique background and perspective. We look forward to reading this year’s submissions, and wish everyone the best of luck."
Luis Inaraja Vera of New York University School of Law won the 2015 writing competition with his article, titled "Compelled Costs Under CERCLA: Incompatible Remedies, Joint and Several Liability, and Tort Law." The piece, published in VJEL Volume 17, Issue 3, is available for download on the VJEL website.
Any student currently pursuing a juris doctor (JD) or master of laws (LLM) degree at an accredited law school in the United States is invited to submit an original essay addressing a relevant topic in environmental law, natural resources law, energy law, environmental justice, land use law, animal law, or agricultural law. While only one winner will be selected, additional submissions may receive offers of publication. The winning entry will be announced in January 2017.
