SOUTH ROYALTON, Vermont (October 28, 2024) — Dan Delurey, senior fellow for climate and energy at Vermont Law and Graduate School (VLGS), has joined the White House Council on Environmental Quality’s Office of the Federal Chief Sustainability Officer, where he will serve on a detail assignment as Director for Clean Energy. Dan will support the Federal Government’s transition to 100% carbon-free electricity by 2030.
Delurey has over 35 years of experience in the energy industry, serving as a senior executive for a Fortune 500 utility, a clean energy start-up and for two climate and smart grid nonprofit associations he founded. He has played a prominent role in the crafting of federal and state policy, both legislative and regulatory, in areas ranging from energy efficiency to grid modernization. He has served as a delegate to the UN Climate Meetings (COPs) since 2009. He is a frequent speaker and communicator on climate change, including a role as a regular guest on an NPR listener call-in program.
Delurey has been a senior fellow at VLGS since 2018. He has served as an advisor to faculty and students and has provided opportunities for students to contribute to projects, including a project on decarbonization for the U.S. Department of Energy.
“The Institute for Energy and the Environment has benefited from Dan’s expertise over the past six years in developing our students into the next generation of clean energy leaders,” said Mark James, interim director of the Institute for Energy and the Environment (IEE) at VLGS. “We need more leaders like Dan advancing decarbonization solutions, and the team is delighted that Dan is bringing his decades of experience to CEQ at this critical time in the clean energy transition.”
