U.S. News & World Report today released its rankings for the Best Law Schools for 2016, placing Vermont Law School in the Top 2 for environmental law for 2016. This marks the 25th year that VLS ranks in the Top 2.
VLS has ranked No. 1 in environmental law 17 times and No. 2 eight times.
"We credit our world-class faculty for this achievement," said VLS President and Dean Marc Mihaly. "We’ve been doing this since 1978, when we established the Environmental Law Center, and today our academic and clinical opportunities continue to set us apart. I couldn’t be more proud of our faculty and the entire Vermont Law School community."
VLS offers more than 64 courses related to the environment and environmental law, more than any other law school in the United States, and four environmental law clinics: the Environmental and Natural Resources Law Clinic, Energy Clinic, Food and Agriculture Clinic, and Land Use Clinic. The school’s environmental Summer Session, which offers 36 classes taught by 44 faculty, is world-renowned.
"I thank our environmental faculty for their contributions in scholarship, in clinical training, and in the classroom—and for their work in addressing critical global issues on a variety of issues, from alternative energy to water quality," said Associate Dean Melissa Scanlan, director of the Environmental Law Center. "Because of them, we are able to offer more environmental courses and clinical opportunities than ever before. And their experiential approach gives our alumni the edge in finding meaningful work in environmental law, policy and regulation."
