Each summer, Vermont Law School offers a Media Fellowship to journalists who have a shown a strong interest and demonstrated reporting on the environment and natural resources. In June and July, Vermont Law School welcomed Annie Snider of Politico, Ellen Gilmer of E&E News, David Abel of The Boston Globe, and Yvette Cabrera, independent environmental journalist and formally of Huffington Post
“The Media Fellows program is an important part of our summer at VLS,” said John Miller, Vice President for Enrollment Management, Marketing and Communications. “It’s a win-win program. Our community benefits from having these journalists on campus and our faculty and staff become resources as they work on stories for their media outlets. Their presentations in our Summer Lecture Series are engaging and contributes to a diversity of viewpoints on-campus.”
Over the course of their time at Vermont Law School, fellows presented their own work as part of the School’s Hot Topics Summer Lecture Series. Each lecture was free and open to the public to attend. Most lectures were streamed live and are available for viewing online.
“It was a great privilege to be able to spend two weeks this summer at VLS,” commented David Abel. “I learned a lot from the classes, even more from getting to know faculty and students. Everyone I met was incredibly welcoming and insightful, some even willing to take me up the river to go kayaking.”
The Vermont Law School Summer Media Fellowship Program has been made possible since 2002 by a generous grant from the Johnson Family Foundation. Applications will be accepted beginning in January for the 2020 Media Fellows Program.
