About This Class

An introduction to trade law and policy, with particular focus on how U.S. trade policy affects, among other things, jobs for American workers, global prosperity and income distribution, access to needed medicines, and indigenous cultures. We will examine how current WTO rules either advance or sabotage progress toward establishment of a more prosperous and egalitarian world economic order and consider proposed reforms of the investor protection provisions in NAFTA and other regional free trade agreements. In 2018-19, we will focus particularly on controversial proposals by the Trump administration to revise or pull out of existing and proposed trade agreements.
