Biography

Joshua L. Sturtevant is an energy industry veteran whose decade-long career has focused on the ongoing transition to a new energy economy driven by clean energy sources. He has served in commercial and counsel roles in companies in various parts of their corporate life cycles, from start-ups to listed corporations.

Josh currently leads the Corporate Development legal function at Avangrid, an integrated utility holding company with assets and operations in over 20 states. Prior to Avangrid, Josh managed asset acquisitions in a commercial role for Nexamp, a Boston-based renewable energy company and subsidiary of Mitsubishi. Previously, he was an attorney with Sullivan & Worcester in its Energy Finance Practice, which followed several years as inside counsel with Distributed Sun, a Washington, D.C.-based solar company. He was also part of the founding team of Renewable Energy Trust Capital. He has served as lead or co-instructor for Alternative Fuels & Renewable Energy and Energy Law & Policy in a Carbon-Constrained World at VLS.

He received his undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and his JD at The George Washington University Law School where he published work on utilizing alternative tax structures to stimulate renewable energy development. Josh volunteers annually as a mentor with the Cleantech Open program and served as a consultant for the DOE-led Solar In Your Community Challenge.
